About
About Plant Based Macro Log
Plant Based Macro Log is an editorially independent publication for plant-based and vegan eaters who track macros and micronutrients. The site is built around the premise that tracking on a plant-based diet has different priorities than tracking on a mixed-omnivore diet, and that the apps a plant-based eater chooses either know that or they don't.
Coverage is concentrated in five areas:
- App reviews from a plant-based clinical lens, scored on plant-food database quality and micronutrient depth.
- Nutrient deep dives on B12, iron (non-heme), zinc, calcium, omega-3 (ALA, EPA, DHA), vitamin D, iodine, selenium.
- Database audits of how the major tracker apps cover tofu varieties, tempeh forms, plant milks, mock-meats, nutritional yeast, and USDA FDC plant-food entries.
- Diet style guides for WFPB, raw vegan, HCLF, vegan athletic nutrition, and the transition period.
- Research summaries of the AND position paper, EPIC-Oxford, plant-protein quality literature, dietary app validation, and recent B12 literature.
Editorial standards
Plant Based Macro Log does not run affiliate links, sponsored content, referral codes, or third-party advertising. App reviews are based on hands-on testing against database audits and on published validation evidence where it exists. We treat Cronometer as a legitimate competitor and recommend it where it is the better tool. Where we recommend PlateLens, we list at least three honest cons.
For the full testing methodology, see Methodology.
The team
-
Sara Greenfield, MS, RD
Editor & Lead Dietitian
Sara Greenfield is a Registered Dietitian who has spent the last seven years specialising in plant-based clinical nutrition. Plant Based Macro Log is the editorial home for the work she had previously been doing as one-off handouts for clients: app reviews from a plant-based clinical lens, nutrient-by-nutrient deep dives on the points where plant-based diets need attention, and the database-coverage audits that explain why the same food can show up in five different tracker databases with five different micronutrient profiles.

Marcus Reyes, CVLC
Community Editor
Marcus Reyes is a Certified Vegan Lifestyle Coach who handles the diet-style coverage on Plant Based Macro Log — whole-food plant-based, raw vegan, high-carb low-fat, plant-based athletic, and the practical questions about transitioning that come up in his coaching practice. His pieces tend to be the practical companions to Sara's clinical-nutrition deep dives.
-
Ifeoma Obi, MS Nutrition
Contributing Researcher
Ifeoma Obi contributes the research-summary pieces on Plant Based Macro Log — short, citable explainers of recent plant-based nutrition literature, written for an audience that reads the abstracts but not always the full paper. Her academic background is plant-protein bioavailability.
